Whether or not you are an Apple aficionado I think we can agree that in terms of the products developed the design was “cool”. Steve Jobs was a renaissance man who understood the deeper aspects of design. “Design,” he once said, “is a funny word. Some people think design means how it looks. But, of course, if you dig deeper, it’s how it really works. You have to grok what it is all about.”
On this deeper level we need to “grok” our design efforts more than ever before. I know in my past I designed learning objects by the SME’s defined objective, built test questions around that to measure and kept building. I am not suggesting we all need to know how to be a rocket scientist however with hybrid learning allowing us to interact more with the intentional learner at specific points and places I believe we would bring more to the experience if we grok’ed our design, if we understood the what and how on a deeper level of context and not just content.
